Imogen Cunningham was born in Oregon on April 12, 1883. Cunningham was interested in photography in her teens but lost interest until 1906. In 1906 she began to study the chemistry behind photography with the help of her chemistry professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. Cunningham began to photograph plants for the botany department. In 1920 she narrowed her focus to textures of objects and plants. Later becoming interested in industry and street photography. She died June 24, 1976 in San Francisco.
